Yoga Classes

Wednesdays 9:00am-10:15am (mixed level)

Gentle Yoga is great for beginners, recovery from injuries, and experienced yoga practitioners who enjoy a slow paced class. Deep breathing exercises and gentle standing poses help with balance and core strength. Slow floor stretches quiet the mind and stimulates connective tissues for joint opening. The focus of this class is to cultivate intuition as one connects with their heart, mind and body-- melting away stress. Guidance and encouragement is given to allow the body to move to where it feels best in each pose, never doing any stretch that is painful or not recommended for total health and wellbeing. The end of the class will be followed by a short meditation. Drop ins welcome!

Awake & Ready Morning Yoga
A morning yoga practice to energize the body and nourish the soul
Tuesdays 6:00am-7:00am (mixed level)

It has been said that practicing yoga in the morning is akin to preventative medicine, while practicing at the end of the day is like treating ourselves after we are already ill. This early morning class will focus on energizing the body while opening our minds and hearts to the divine flow of inner wisdom and creativity. The class is a moderate-fast paced vinyasa flow with modications for all levels of practice. Grace Kendrick is the founder of Mindful Mama Yoga & Ayurveda. She is a certified yoga teacher in Hatha-based Vinyasa flow and Kundalini yoga and is an intern with the CA College of Ayurveda. She has been teaching in the South Bay for over seven years.

October Yin Yoga Workshop Series
Sundays, 4pm-6pm
10/3 Yin Yoga and Shamanic Journey with Debora Cohen and Lisa Smith

Yin Yoga targets connective tissue, which responds to longer held passive poses in a unique way. When our connective tissue opens, more freedom manifests spontaneously in our hips and shoulders lending strength, agility and ease in sitting comfortably. Enhancing any physical activity, yin yoga is a great way to recover from stress due to exercise, injury, or autoimmune challenges. Yin yoga is also a great way to recover from work and other socially related stressful conditions and significant life changes. The more we recover and bring ourselves into balance the better our energy, attitude, immune system, and creativity. To assist with our creativity during each yin yoga posture, I invited Lisa Smith to lead us through a Shamanic Journey that will connect us to the five elements, the four directions and our power animal. Lean powerful insights into your psyche.
10/10 Yin Yoga and the Meridian System with Debora Cohen and Therese Walsh-Van Keuren, Ph.D., LA c.

The practice of yoga was created to help with our mental disturbances. Disturbances of our mind can come from mental and physical problems. Our physical disturbances and problems our a direct result from our energetic blockages in our meridian energy system. I have invited my good friend and Doctor of Chinese Medicine Therese Walsh Van Keuren to explain how each yin yoga relaxing stretch stimulates particular types of meridians to clear out blockages and assist us with good mental and physical health and wellbeing.
10/17 Yin Yoga and Chakra-Energy Clearing with Debora Cohen

The spine and the human energy field contain chakras, or energy centers, that vibrate at different frequencies. Each chakra presents us with the opportunity to establish a root relationship and to satisfy a deep soul desire. Energizing and balancing the chakras helps bring internal power to deal with specific life challenges, and to live more whole, meaningful and fulfilling lives. This two hour workshop will include restorative yin yoga stretches and mindful awareness to each chakra system, ending with a yoga savasana meditation to release disturbances and integrate constructive energy in each system. Hands on healing will be performed by Debora during the yin yoga stretches and during Savasana.
10/24 Yin Yoga and Meditation with Debora Cohen

This workshop combines ancient yoga techniques to help the mind and body prepare for meditation. Deep breathing helps by energizing and purifying the mind and body. Creative mindful meditation techniques will be presented throughout the physical practice to offer constructive focus for the mind. Long gentle stretches helps to reduce physical stress and tension. Yin Yoga is also a must for anyone interested in developing a sitting meditation practice. A guided meditation practice will follow the physical practice. This practice fosters the principle of non-violence and effects a heart felt change in our world view.
